Inclusive remembrance

Accessibility Statement

We want wartimemaritime.org and every member dashboard to be usable by as many people as possible. This statement explains the standards we aim for, the improvements we have made in this update, and how to tell us about any barriers you encounter.

How we design & build

  • Pages reuse a single layout with semantic headings so screen-reader users can navigate consistently.
  • Buttons and links now use descriptive text (no more “.html” or “Read more” placeholders without context).
  • Forms include visible labels, error messaging, and status confirmations for assistive technologies.

Current compliance target

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA across public pages and logged-in dashboards. Some legacy imagery is decorative and may not yet include descriptive alternative text, but new uploads must provide alt text and captions.

Planned improvements

  • Captions for embedded video links shared via the news system.
  • Optional high-contrast toggle for dashboards.
  • Quarterly accessibility reviews by a volunteer director.

Feedback
